COMING EVENTS
IN SUPPORT OF SBV
The Near Northwest Management District is an important organization working to improve the "livability" of our part of Houston. Their President/CEO, Wayne Norden, spoke at our Annual Meeting in late March. We are within their boundaries and represented at meetings by Dwight Dawson. Separate meetings are also held monthly on Security; this includes business owners, HOA's, apartment owners/managers and police representatives. Interested residents are invited to attend as well.
Major improvements of the "Antoine Corridor" and the Inwood Golf Course area is the immediate focus of the NNMD. Any SBV resident wanting to get more involved in this effort can contact Dwight Dawson, 832.366.7971. You can learn about the NNMD at http://www.nearnorthwestdistrict.com
REPLACING NEIGHBORHOOD FENCES
When it becomes time to replace that wooden fence surrounding your property, it is often a "group process."
In a neighborhood like SBV, the usual practice is for adjoining neighbors to put their heads together to figure out WHEN, VENDOR TO USE, etc. The original fences were constructed so that "shared" fences have alternating front/back construction. The usual practice in replacement of shared fences is to have agreement as to when it will be done, cost, and the vendor to do it. There are, of course, other options to take but this is the most "neighborly" and the way recommended by your HOA. So, talk to your neighbors!
If anyone would like counsel on this, contact any of the HOA Directors.
YARD ATTENTION
Again at the last annual meeting we spoke of the need to weed flower beds, etc. to keep yards looking good. Benny Boyle is ready to assist in weeding, putting down new mulch etc. The cost will vary by size of yard and current condition. He estimates $75 to $220 depending on what is needed. He will provide an estimate for you. If you'd like his help, call him at 281.395.4823.
The HOA will contact residents if a yard needs attention. A letter will be the 2nd step, and as a last resort, if needed, HOA will ask Benny Boyle to do the work, at resident's expense. The goal is simply to maintain a neighborhood of yards we can all be proud of.
In early April, Benny appliesa weed and feed on all lawns, at HOA expense. He also applies a winterizer around Oct. 1. To control the most damaging bugs in the lawn, we suggest owner applications of Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer, available at Home Depot. Among other things this stuff kills fire ants and Cinch Bugs.
